White spotted pinion moth

July 18 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm

There will be a moth trapping at Clayway, Thistle Corner to survey for white spotted pinion moth. this moth is associated with Elm trees and there is a wonderful copse of Elm where the moth is known to occur. There is the possibility to see other rare Elm associated insect too.

The spread of Dutch Elm disease wiped out many Elms throughout the United Kingdom. We are exceptionally lucky to have such a pristine copse in Ely. The moth as a direct result of the loss of the host tree was also seriously decimated throughout most of its range, but again we are lucky to have such a good population.

If you would like to join, follow the bridleway fromt he round about at the top of Prickwillow Road and Kings Avenue, north toward the railway crossings. Lights will be turned on when the sun goes down.
